Methanol, also known as hydroxyl methane, as "xylol", is an organic compound and the simplest saturated monohydric alcohol. The appearance is colorless, transparent and volatile liquid. There is a slight smell of alcohol. It is miscible with water, ethanol, ether, benzene, ketone, halo hydrocarbon and many other organic solvents. It is usually used as solvent, anti-frost agent, fuel or neutralizer.
Methanol Mainly used in the manufacture of formaldehyde, acetic acid, methyl chloride, methyl amine and dimethyl sulfate and other organic products. It is also the raw material of pesticides (insecticides, acaricides), medicine (sulfonamides, synthamycin, etc.), and one of the raw materials of synthesis of dimethyl terephthalate, methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate. It is also an important solvent and can be mixed with gasoline as an alternative fuel. Since the 1980s, methanol has been used in the production of gasoline octane additive methyl-tart-butyl ether, methanol gasoline, methanol fuel, and methanol protein, which has greatly promoted the development and market demand of methanol production.
